FREE Mouth Cancer examination!

Mouth cancer Action Month is now underway and this November we are supporting them in helping people become more "Mouthaware" by learning about the risk factors, signs and symptoms associated with this life-threatening disease.

The practice, will be offering FREE  oral health checks with mouth cancer examinations throughout the month of November in order to give back to their local community and make everyone in the area aware of mouth cancer and the importance of regular check-ups in protecting against this life-threatening disease.

Billy Campbell, Practice Owner stated, “Each time we carry out a dental check up on our patients, an oral cancer examination is also routinely carried out. However, we are happy to offer anyone, who is not already registered with us, the opportunity to have a FREE mouth cancer examination carried out.”

Mouth cancer does not have the public awareness that other forms of cancer does, yet shockingly it claims more lives every year than testicular and cervical cancer combined.  We need to change this.“Through the Oral Health Foundation initiative we want to support them in creating awareness of mouth cancer, its causes, the signs and symptoms and the role your dentist can play in helping to catch the disease early enough to beat it.

“Simply contact the practice on 0044 2830838585 to book your free examination which will last approximately 15 minute and checks the whole mouth including the cheeks, lips, tongue and gums.

Organised by the Oral Health Foundation, Mouth Cancer Action Month is aiming to reduce the amount of lives lost to mouth cancer by ensuring we are all aware of the symptoms and causes of the disease.

In the UK, more than 7,800 people were diagnosed with mouth cancer last year and globally there are in excess of 300,000 new cases every year.

The number of people being diagnosed with mouth cancer has grown by around a third in the last decade and remains one of very few cancers which are predicted to increase further in the coming years.

Public awareness remains vital to combating the disease and through us all being ‘Mouthaware’ and spotting mouth cancer early enough, we are giving everyone the best possible chance to be successfully treated and have a good quality of life.

Although risk factors (such as smoking and alcohol) are responsible for many mouth cancers, it is a disease that can affect anyone.

That is why it is so important we all know what to look out for.

        -   Don’t leave a mouth ulcer unattended for more than three weeks.

       -    Don’t ignore any unusual lumps or swellings or red and white patches in your mouth.

       -  Regularly check your own mouth, lips, cheeks, head and neck for anything out of the ordinary.

If you notice any of these, please make an appointment with your dentist or doctor as soon as  possible.

To book your free mouth cancer check contact the clinic directly on 028 303838585 or email camloughdental@btconnect.com
